Rishta Nata (Match Making)

By Talat Syam

The Rishta Nata department at Jalsa Salana UK is a very important department. This department helps members of the Jama’at by providing them with potential matches. Members can sign up and give in their respective details and they can be advised regarding their matches. This department holds details of the members with their consent and holds the responsibility of matching those members accordingly. This is a blessed platform and can be very useful for members who want to get married in an Islamic way.

Islam is a very beautiful religion and it encourages Muslims to marry to complete their faith and to procreate. Marriage structures the basic unit of human society and lays the foundation of the family. Allah the Almighty commands the believers to marry for its benefits, both morally and spiritually. The Holy prophet (sa) said:

“O young people! Whoever among you is able to marry, should marry.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab-un-Nikah, Hadith 5065)

In another narration the Holy Prophet (sa) has been reported to have said:

“When a man marries he has fulfilled half of the religion.”

(Mishkat al-Masabih, Hadith 3096)

One of the key factors in building the foundation of a good marriage is, of course, the selection of the right person with whom to spend the rest of your life. Here again, Islam provides guidance. The Holy Prophet (sa) said:

“A woman is married for four things, i.e., her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So you should marry the religious woman.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari Kitab-un-Nikah, Hadith 5090)

Piety and righteousness are the most important qualities to be sought in a potential mate. If you and your partner have righteousness, you will approach all aspects of marriage in a God fearing way. Other things that are also essential to take into consideration in match making are family background, age, education, and interests. When one approaches the Rishta Nata department, they can assist the members when going through these steps and they can advise members to finding a suitable match for them.

Prayer is the most essential tool for deciding on a prospective mate. Muslims are taught the Istikhara (seeking goodness) prayer to seek further guidance in making important decisions. This is by far the most important step and one should be very sincere in prayers in order to make a decision.
