On the first day of the Annual Convention (Jalsa Salana), the Caliph, His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba), raises the official flag (Liwa-e-Ahmadiyya) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, known as the flag hoisting ceremony. This practice is a key aspect of the Annual Convention, and thousands of people gather to witness it first-hand, whilst hundreds of thousands more watch it on MTA. The purpose of the raising of the flag is not a mere tradition but has a deep spiritual significance and is a reminder to the community to always strive for the establishment, unity and promulgation of Islam and Ahmadiyyat and present every sacrifice through the help of God so the Ahmadiyyah, the True Islam prevails over every other religion and the flag continues to wave higher than any other flag.

As the flag is being raised high in the air, His Holiness would pray the following words: “Our Lord, accept this from us; for Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing” (Ch.2: V.128)
